GRANT'S WRESTLEMAINIA

Have you ever gone looking for something only to find something else instead? It can happen anywhere, really. You're at home looking for your nail clippers and in the midst of your manhunt you find the three rechargable batteries you were looking for when you last came across the nail clippers that you weren't looking for at the time. If you could only find the recharger and the fourth battery now. Or, you're looking for your favorite CD only to find the case, but not the CD. Where's the CD? Well, it's probably in another case. Who knows which case, because your wife isn't as fastidious about music management as you've always been. I'm not bitter, really! Even worse is the eternal search for the proper tape case because, more often then not, tapes are sucked into the same vortex as socks and you always have one extra tape with no case. Does any of this sound familiar to you or is my life peculiarly blessed?

Well, I got a surprise last week from a couple of people who were looking for me and found someone else. Actually they were looking for "Grant's Graceland," and found "Real Xtreme Wrestling" instead. It seems that our old address, rather than being retired, has a new lease on life. So, if you go to http://graceland.interspeed.net, and expect to find Graceland, your senses will be thrown into a hammerlock!

Not that there is anything wrong with the new tenant in the land where I first explored and pitched my tent. After all, there is a sense of style and meter to the phrase, "Welcome to Real Xtreme Wrestling . . . .We pull no punches, and we take everything to the Extreme." In fact, if it weren't for the imposing picture of a scull, and several wrestling well-knowns, it might take some time to discern the digression.

Actually, I feel a bit uneasy thinking that some people may be digging up my old web address from the dim, dark, annals of their bookmark, or favorites and then get pinned to the mat with surprise. It's no fun to look for one thing, expect one thing, then find another. Believe me, I know!

Ok, what can wrestle from this Whatcha?

First, don't assume people will always be there. We've developed a friendship, a relationship and grown to love and appreciate that person, but . . . life got busy. The focus changed. Drifting started. When we finally realized what happened, we find that the other person has moved on. In some cases, such happenings are unavoidable. They are a part of life, part of change, part of growth, and it's ok (with the exception of marriage, of course). But, may we never, ever lose touch with Jesus. May we never just assume that we can ignore Him and expect Him to always be there for us. Don't get me wrong, God has plenty of patience and chances are that He would be there. But you might not remember, or care to remember where "there" is! It is possible to wander so far away that you won't even consider the long journey home. To me, perhaps the saddest verse in the Bible is Judges 16:20, in which it says of Samson, "He did not know that the LORD had left him." Wow! How far from God do you have to be to not even know when He's left? I don't know, and I don't want to find out!

Second, there is always someone waiting to take your place. Everyone is expendable. One person moves on, another one moves in. Humbling, isn't it? But here's something to consider. Yes, everyone is expendable, but everyone is also unique. Someone may take your place, but they won't have your style, your interests, and your gifts. So, wherever you are, and whereever you go, God has things for you to do. Don't miss doing them, ok?

Finally, there's more to being a Christian than wearing the name. The first part of my past and present URL both begin the same. They both start with http://graceland, but what's inside is different. Now I'm not disparaging the new content of the old site. That's not why I'm here! What I am saying is that there are two sites with the same name, but only one has content that goes with the name. The poor guy lost out when he got stuck with our old URL. What a wimpy URL for something he's trying to promote as "extreme!" The name doesn't fit the image.

Do you wear the name "Christian"? If you do, does the content, does the image square with the name? A good question to wrestle with until next week, don't you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, or any other Whatcha. Click on my name at the bottom and email me. I promise to reply.
