What Did You Get for Easter by Geoff Clarke

"What did you get for Easter"? This was the question on the lips of my friends and me as children. We would "ooooh" and "awwww" over the huge chocolate rabbits (they just aren't as big today) and the jelly beans, and toys. My parents would get my brother and me huge baskets filled with goodies wrapped in plastic. We're talking significant real estate here: 3 feet high and 15 pounds of heft. It was Great!!!!

I still hear kids asking "what did you get for Easter?" and its' getting more involved. When I worked in an electronics store last year, parents were coming in to buy Easter presents for their children. We're talking cd players, computer games and televisions. I was blown away by this, but they told me its the expected thing now.

What did God give you for Easter? He gave me something sweeter than chocolate, more lovable than a fuzzy bunny. He gave me something I cherish, and unlike the chocolate of years ago, something I love to share. God gave me Eternal Life. God gave me Forgiveness and Mercy. It came wrapped in a shroud. But He unwrapped it for me.

What we call Easter is nothing more or nothing less than Resurrection Sunday. It's the day when Jesus rose from the grave, and defeated death. He died on the cross for the sins that I committed and rose from the grave by the Power and Grace of God. He gave me something that I can share with others. I can do that by telling them what He offers (consider your self told by the way). That's done by sharing the Bible with them so they can see the truth for themselves. It is Great!!!

So what did God give you for Easter? Better go and open the package and see.

My buddy Geoff lives in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada.
